        Young Adults

This Page is for information on everything from the Adults Singles And Pairs (ASAP) class to the current music, movies, and other events that might be of interest to those of the age group from 18 to 40.  Why the big age range?  Because your as young as you feel until your over the hill, or so I have been told. Honestly the age range is for anyone that still feels young enough to participate in anything we do.  So if you feel like joining, come on with us.

A. S. A. P.  Sunday School Class

The class is exciting and filled with great discussions of issues brought up by the lesson or those in the class. This has grown into a great chance to learn valuable information for facing ourselves as well as others and being challenged to grow in faith. We look forward to seeing you at 10:00AM Sunday Morning.

Music That Teaches Us Something and Touches Our Lives

This section is devoted to songs that have a powerful message for us to learn.  The songs will change once every two to three weeks. Please keep an eye out for these songs. Let them challenge and encourage you as you walk in your Christian Life. Also look for music that can bless your soul by checking out the music by the artist listings toward the bottom of this page.

Music That Teaches Us Something and Touches Our Lives Archive

Current Song Pick  "There Will Be A Day"   Artist: Jeremy Camp  Music Style: Christian Rock
From the album  -  Speaking Louder Than Before

I try to hold on to this world with everything I have
But I feel the weight of what it brings, and the hurt that trys to grab
The many trials that seem to never end, His word declares this truth,
that we will enter in this rest with wonders anew

But I hold on to this hope and the promise that He brings
That there will be a place with no more suffering

(Chorus)
There will be a day with no more tears, no more pain, and no more fears
There will be a day when the burdens of this place, will be no more, we'll see Jesus face to face
But until that day, we'll hold on to you always

I know the journey seems so long
You feel you’re walking on your own
But there has never been a step
Where you’ve walked out all alone

(Chorus)

Troubled soul don’t lose your heart
Cause joy and peace he brings
And the beauty that’s in store
Outweighs the hurt of life’s sting

I can’t wait until that day where the very one I’ve lived for always will wipe away the sorrow that I’ve faced
To touch the scars that rescued me from a life of shame and misery this is why this is why I sing

As Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner, we should have a stronger since of hope even in these harsh times.  What greater cause for hope do we have than the Hope of God through the many blessings He has poured out on us including the gift of His Son on Christmas. With all the difficulties going on in the world today, there is no better time to shine the light of God's hope to all people. That True Hope is built on the Love of God and constant connection we have through the Holy Spirit.  People desperately need a source of hope and strength to face the struggles before them, so take confidence in the Lord and hold fast to Him.  With that grasp firm, continuously reach out to all those around you in your family, workplace and community.

Lord, we thank and praise You for the many blessings that You have poured out on us.  Remind us now of all You have done for us and the future You have for us.  Let us take hold of the Hope we have in You and shine the light of Your Son, especially in this time that we celebrate Your blessings, family, and the birth of Your Son, Jesus Christ.  Let us take hold of Your hand and never let go.  Make us shine brightly through Your Holy Spirit so our family, friends, and community might see and take hold of the same hope that is faith in Jesus Christ. May our hearts be ever grateful to You, Almighty Abba Father. In Your Most Precious and Holy Name. Amen.

Movies to Watch

Fire Proof: Never Leave Your Partner Behind

This movie is showing in the Hazard, Kentucky area at the Hillside Theatre. The next movie from the Kendrick brothers, the creators of "Facing the Giants" and "Flywheel", debuted in theatres September 26, 2008.  The film stars Kirk Cameron and looks to be a great witness to the world of families torn by divorce and broken relationships.  The purity of this film is so great that for a kissing scene in the movie, Kirk Cameron's wife was flown out to stand in for that scene, and the lights were lowered to keep from noticing the change. This is an impressive way to maintain the integrity of the movie and actors.  To view the trailer and find out more about the movie click on this link.
Here is the word from the Official Website about "Fire Proof" :

Standing the Test of Time
In the movie business, time is not an ally. Movies reach their zenith during the first weekend. From there, audience numbers tumble and before you know it, the movie you wanted to see is no longer playing in your local theater. FIREPROOF, however, continues bucking most Hollywood trends. Of course, when a movie is produced in Albany, Georgia by a church using more than 1,000 volunteers, you know that any conventional movie-industry wisdom has been left by the wayside.

Through six weeks in theaters, FIREPROOF remains a strong, consistent offering in nearly 900 theaters each week. After opening at No. 4 and remaining in the Top 10 for three weeks, the film has finished at No. 11 twice and No. 13 in the last three weeks. Major blockbusters that also opened on September 26 have faded away while FIREPROOF continues reaching an audience of people like Carlos with its message of hope.

"I'm a 23-year-old male who is about to get married in just two weeks. My fiancée and I went to the movies late Saturday and saw FIREPROOF. We left that place so touched. We both are strong Christians and faithful to the Lord, and it was so awesome to see the couples around us being touched by this movie. I know that we will face difficult times like everyone else. This movie has helped us prepare our hearts for that."

The Heart of a Movement
Whereas most movies strive to entertain, FIREPROOF goes there and beyond to touch the hearts and challenge the lives of moviegoers. Nearly 2,000 people have shared their stories of how this movie has impacted them on FireprooftheMovie.com, including Grace. Who do you know like her that could benefit from this movie?

"I have been waiting for this movie since the moment I heard about it. Thank you for FIREPROOF. Four years ago, our marriage survived adultery. It should never have happened, but it did. Without the Lord, we would not have made it. I am so glad that someone is addressing the subject of marriage from God's perspective.

"Too many times in Christian circles 'marriage problems' are looked upon as taboo to talk about because everyone will think you are a terrible person. But without strong, God-centered marriages, we can't have strong homes or children or churches or communities or nations. Now more than ever, we need God in our homes! Thank you for this 'movement.' Marriage God's way is amazing, in spite of its difficulties. It's worth every effort!"

To Rent or to Buy

Look for the Dove Award Family Approved seal on movies in stores. While this does not guarantee the quality of plot in these movies, this does mean the content of the movies will be acceptable in areas of language, sexual content, and other subjects.  Even though these movies are not all specifically Christian themed movies either, but do carry good healthy messages to them. Movies with this seal include: Janette Oke's Love Comes Softly series, most Walden Media movies(Chronicles of Narnia, Charlotte's Web, etc.), The Final Season with Sean Astin, Bella, and The Wager with Randy Travis.

The Ultimate Gift

This book about a trust-fund baby who grandfather dies and leaves an inheritance to Him that in order to receive, he must complete a sequence of challenges. The story will make you laugh as well as cry. The movie is also family approved by the Dove Foundation. The story also has material to be used for discussion in Sunday School or small group meetings.  The movie is worth watching over and over again.  Enjoy this movie which is available now at your local department stores. Also look for the book in stores as well.  Even though there are some major differences between the movie and book, both are very good and highly recommended.

Some Questionable Content

These movies are good except for some places where the content listed appears in the movie.

Lord Of The Rings trilogy
(based on book by J. R. R. Tolkien) - violence and fantasy content
Passion of the Christ - Realistic violence

Three - Intense thematic elements and violence (based on Ted Dekker book of the same name)

We Are Marshall - Some language and frightening crash scene  (true story of the Marshall University Football team)

In the Near Future

There are a few movie titles coming out in the near future based on books by authors Frank Perreti and Ted Dekker. Be aware that the books they write involve topics of spiritual warfare and would not be suitable for younger age groups and even some adults without an understanding of spiritual warfare.  Movies like The Visitation have already been released, but might be taken in the wrong context without and understanding of the truths and basis behind these movies.

The music in the mainstream market is in the midst of a struggle. Many Christian Music artists are making the crossover to public radio and the mainstream market.  In response, the secular mainstream artists have begun to grow more deceptive in their lyrics at times, but others have grown more destructive and dirty.  The lists below gives names of artists and groups from all of music.
